Introduction

Protecting your personal information is a legal right which DJI recognises the importance of and DJI is committed to protecting your privacy.  This policy governs the relationship between you and DJI and describes why and how DJI collect and use personal data and provides information about individual’s rights in relation to personal data.

Information collection

DJI adheres to the definition of personal information as per the Protection of Personal Information Act no. 4 of 2013. The Protection of Personal defines personal information as:

Information relating to an identifiable, living, natural person, and where it is applicable, an identifiable, existing juristic person, including, but not limited to—

  • information relating to the race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, national, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental health, well-being, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth of the person;
  • information relating to the education or the medical, financial, criminal or employment history of the person;
  • any identifying number, symbol, e-mail address, physical address, telephone number, location information, online identifier or other particular assignment to the person;
  • the biometric information of the person;
  • the personal opinions, views or preferences of the person;
  • correspondence sent by the person that is implicitly or explicitly of a private or confidential nature or further correspondence that would reveal the contents of the original correspondence;
  • the views or opinions of another individual about the person; and (h) the name of the person if it appears with other personal information relating to the person or if the disclosure of the name itself would reveal information about the person”.
  • respecting and protecting your Personal Information (please refer to the definition of Personal Information at the end of this policy statement) is very important to us. It is also a Constitutional right, legal, and good business practice requirement, which we take very seriously.

DJI may collect personal information when you interact with the website such as the data you provide in order to obtain an online quotation, questions you ask via email or your personal facility data that you may want to view and or amend.

DJI does not usually seek to collect sensitive information such as financial information, sexual orientation, physical and mental health, biometric information and religious beliefs, through the use of this website. We may gather sensitive information about you because you volunteer that data to us. DJI will obtain your explicit consent to collect and use such information.

In terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act no. 4 of 2013, DJI will

  • Accept joint responsibility and accountability with you to responsibly manage and protect your Personal Information when providing our services to you;
  • Collect  and process a only such Personal Information which is necessary to fulfill the engagement obligations and consider the legitimate legal interests of everyone concerned, as required by the Act;
  • At all times respect your right to withdraw your consent for the processing of your Personal Information;
  • Use your Personal Information for the purpose for which the information is essential to fulfill engagement obligation;
  • Not share or further process your Personal Information with anyone or for any reason if not required for assisting you with your solutions or as required in terms of legislation or regulations;
  • Undertake to take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that information is complete, accurate, not misleading and, where necessary, is updated;
  • Be open and transparent on the nature, extent and reasons for processing Personal Information;
  • Safeguard and protect your Personal Information in our possession;
  • Freely confirm what Personal Information we hold of you, to update and rectify the Personal Information upon request and to keep it for no longer than required.

Usage of Personal Information

DJI will not use your Personal Information for any other purpose than set out in this policy and DJI will take the necessary steps to secure the integrity and confidentiality of Personal Information in our possession. DJI will take appropriate and reasonable measures to prevent loss, damage, unauthorized destruction and unauthorized access to your Personal Information.

DJI shall use the information collected via our website:

  • To provide professional, efficient and personalised, services to our clients
  • To process application requests and transactions
  • Maintain internal records
  • Understand client needs and provide relevant product and service offers
  • To respond to your queries
  • To confirm and verify your identity for security purposes
  • To comply with our legal obligations to you
  • To satisfy any requirement by a professional body which we are a member of
  • To comply with possible requirements by the Information Regulator or other Government agencies allowed by law, legal proceedings, or court rulings
  • For recruitment and employment purposes

DJI will not sell or provide personal information to third parties for independent use. However, prior consent will be obtained from you should DJI share personal information with our business partners, in order to provide the service/s, you have requested.

DJI business partners shall be bound contractually, to ensure that they protect client personal information in accordance with applicable laws and shall only use information as directed by DJI. DJI values the information that has been provided to us and will therefore take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse or unauthorized alteration.

Security

DJI has kept abreast with the latest global developments in security technology and have implemented generally accepted standards of technology and operational security in order to protect personal information.

The information stored in databases, have built in safeguards to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of that information. Only authorized persons are provided access to personal information. These personnel have signed a confidentiality agreement within our organization that further safeguards your personal information.

Although we use adequate security measures once we have received your personal data, the transmission of data over the internet (including by e-mail) is never completely secure. We endeavour to protect your personal data, but we cannot guarantee the security of data transmitted to or by us.

Your rights

Under relevant law, you have various rights in relation to your Personal Information. In particular, you may have a right to:

  • Obtain confirmation that we are processing your Personal Information and request a copy of the Personal Information we hold about you;
  • Ask that we update the Personal Information we hold about you, or ask that we correct such Personal Information that you think is incorrect or incomplete;
  • Ask that we delete Personal Information that we hold about you, or restrict the way in which we use such Personal Information;
  • Object to our processing of your Personal Information; and
  • Withdraw consent for use and processing of personal information.

Retention of Personal Information

DJ shall only retain and store Personal Information for the period for which the data is required to serve its primary purpose or a legitimate interest or for the period required to comply with an applicable legal requirement, whichever is longer.

Amendments to Personal Information

You have the right to ask us to update, correct or delete your personal information. We will require proof of identity and/or authority before making changes to personal information we may hold of you. We would appreciate it if you would keep your personal information accurate and up to date.

Changes to policy

DJI reserves the right to amend, alter and terminate this Policy at any time.
